“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18 NKJV
“Give me this mountain” is Caleb’s story, recorded in Joshua 14: “‘I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land; … the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years … now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old … Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day.’ … And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb.”
Warren Wiersbe said: “Caleb is a man who teaches us to look ahead and not back. Caleb had to fight many battles against the giants to claim his inheritance. Jesus fought one battle on Calvary, and gave His life to secure the victory; and now He reigns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.”
“Claiming a mountain for God” – January 21, 1977, on Candlers Mountain near Lynchburg, Virginia, 2,500 Liberty Baptist College faculty and students prayed together in the snow and sub-zero temperatures. Jerry Falwell said, “Liberty Baptist College is just five years old. Only the blessing of God can explain its very existence … We have absolutely nowhere to meet for classes in the fall.” Falwell prayed, “Lord, we must have a miracle. We want to build on this mountain, but we need to pay off existing debts before we can even begin construction here.”
Within 2 years, thousands of students were attending Liberty Baptist College on the new campus on Liberty Mountain (Candlers Mountain).
Today, the Liberty University mission continues: “Training Champions for Christ.” The campus on Liberty Mountain now includes over 7,000 acres and 183 buildings. Total enrollment is more than 135,000 – including 15,000+ residential students and 120,000+ online.
TTT Christian Youth Ministries’ vision: Every youth, before turning 20, to hear the Gospel with an invitation to “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.”
The TTT mission: Telling The TRUTH to / through teenagers – to win them to Christ and train them for Christ, teaching them how to share their faith through their local churches, on their campuses, throughout their communities, and into their world, wherever God leads them in their future.
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ” billboards along busy thoroughfares can be viewed daily.
A reproduction of the billboard is on printed copies of God’s ABCs. Thousands are distributed each year. Smaller versions of the billboard are displayed on tents at Fair Share and on the TTT Fall Festival booth on Franklin Street.
We are praying and thanking God in advance for His provision of resources for needed roadside missionary and identification signage on the TTT campus, ultimately including digital displays.
“Then the Lord answered me and said: ‘Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” Habakkuk 2:2-3 NKJV
Leading Youth Peer Evangelism Training is available, teaching and equipping students and adults to creatively communicate Christianity, so that many more youth can be reached.
God magnificently provided a house on 2 1/3 acres along US 41 at Boonville New Harmony Road, and the doors of the TTT Christian Communication Center opened the first Saturday of February 1966 with two teenagers and a few adults. I declared, “God willing, we will be here every Saturday for the next 30 years.” In 1978, TTT acquired the surrounding acreage, for a total of 30 acres. And now 58 years and counting, the ministry and vision continue, with many youth who still need to be reached with the Gospel.
Next Saturday, September 7 is to be, God willing, TTT’s 3,058th consecutive Saturday, with free hamburgers for everyone attending.
Our daughter Tami graduated from Liberty University in 1985, and now serves as president of TTT Christian Youth Ministries.
“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14 NKJV
Have you made the personal decision to “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ”? Are you praying, reading God’s Word, sharing your faith, and growing in His grace?
