Will you know and do God’s Word?

“But He said, ‘More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!'” Luke 11:28 NKJV

“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11-12 NKJV

In the Wiersbe Study Bible, Warren Wiersbe wrote: “Evangelists. ‘Bearers of the Good News.’ These men traveled from place to place to preach the gospel and win the lost. All ministers should ‘work at telling others the Good News, but this does not mean that all ministers are evangelists.”

From 1948 (as a high school senior) forward, I have been involved in evangelistic youth endeavors and multiple Christian communication outreaches.

From 1951 through 1960, I co-directed Gospel Advertising Association with my father, Lawson Dooms. We placed “roadside missionaries” along busy highways with the message “Believe on Christ.”

Evangelist Bill Piper spoke in Bob Jones University chapel and “Preacher Boys” class about the need for quality advertising and promotion for churches. Soon we were producing bumper strips, posters, and printed materials to help attract people to attend evangelistic outreaches in local churches and cooperative campaigns. Between 1951 and 1960, more than 100 evangelists (including Bill Piper and other Bob Jones, Sword of the Lord, Southern Baptist, and Christ for America evangelists) conducted local church and cooperative outreaches, and more than 1,500 campaigns in 47 states, using promotional pieces produced by Gospel Advertising Association, with thousands responding to the invitation to “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Earl Radmacher, Editor of the Nelson Study Bible, wrote: “Evangelists are gospel preachers who help bring people into the body of Christ. They do so by presenting Christ’s offer of free salvation by grace through faith. Evangelists may also train other believers to share their faith effectively.”

Radmacher continued: “Evangelist is one of five offices mentioned by Paul in Ephesians. An evangelist equips and encourages believers to share the Good News.”

Realizing that God was calling me to be an evangelist was surprising. As doors consistently opened, the joy of sharing God’s Good News, and seeing Him change the tomorrows of new believers, especially youth, is always thrilling.

God guided to establish the TTT Christian Communication Center – “Telling The TRUTH to/through teenagers.”

In the 1800s, “Much of the evangelizing of was done by unattached and usually unpaid ministers of the Gospel. All of the Christian denominations were represented by these earnest, sacrificial men of God. The traveling evangelists represented all of the evangelical denominations and their ministry covered all of the states then in the Union. They conducted camp meetings, and revivals were held in the churches in all types of communities. These men won thousands to Christ” (A History of Evangelism in the United States).

Looking back on his 65 years as a traveling evangelist (from age 17) until 1872, Peter Cartwright said, “I would take the same track over again, in the same religion, rather than be President of the United States.”

Dwight L. Moody was called to do the work of an evangelist. Praying on Mount Olivet in Israel in 1892, looking down on Jerusalem, he received a vision from the Lord to reach people who would be flooding into Chicago in 1893 from every North American state and territory, and every nation on earth.

Leaving Israel, Moody went back to Britain before returning to America. He recruited evangelistic preachers and workers to help with the forthcoming World’s Columbian Exposition, popularly known as the Chicago World’s Fair.

Back in the United States, Moody recruited dozens more evangelists, including R.A. Torrey, J. Wilbur Chapman, and Chapman’s young associate Billy Sunday.

Saturday, December 7 is to feature Jesus’ “wordless book” birthday cake at TTT; Saturday, January 4 kicks off the New Year of 2025; February 1, God willing, TTT is to turn 59.

You can be a world changer and help “Hosanna Highway” happen, March 1 through May 3, 2025. Saturday, April 5 at TTT, “Hosanna” Saturday will highlight the week that turned the world “upside down” – from Palm Sunday, Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem riding on the colt of a donkey, He was soon betrayed and falsely accused, forced to carry the cross to be crucified.

“… Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 NKJV

When you know God’s Word, you can do what the scriptures teach. It begins when you personally “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.”

“But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” 2 Timothy 4:5 NKJV
