John presents his first-hand report of Jesus’ crucifixion:
“Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led Him away. And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center. Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. Then many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. Therefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, ‘Do not write, “The King of the Jews,” but, “He said, ‘I am the King of the Jews. ” ‘ Pilate answered, ‘What I have written, I have written.’ ” John 19:16-22 NKJV
“And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe.” John 19:35 NKJV
Earlier in the book of John, he had quoted Jesus referring to Himself as “The Truth” – “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32; and “Jesus said to him ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6 NKJV
“And He went up on the mountain and called to Him those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him. Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach.” Mark 3:13-14 NKJV
“Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; Simon the Cananite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. These twelve Jesus sent out…” Matthew 10:1-5 NKJV
After writing the gospel of John, John also authored First, Second, and Third John. 1 John 1:7 concludes: “the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”
Robert Lowry wrote the song: “Nothing But the Blood of Jesus” – “What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus … For my cleansing this my plea, nothing but the blood of Jesus.”
“For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present … After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also …” (1 Corinthians 15:3-8 NKJV), wrote Paul, who had an encounter with Jesus face-to-face on the road to Damascus.
Jesus said, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations … ” Matthew 28:18-19 NKJV
Warren Wiersbe explains: “Jesus by His authority orders activity. The Greek verb translated ‘go’ is actually not a command but a present participle (‘going’). Jesus was saying, ‘While you are going…’ No matter where we are, we should be witnesses for Jesus Christ and seek to win others to Him.”
John wrapped up his gospel: “This is the disciple who testifies of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true. And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.” John 21:24-25 NKJV
Jesus said, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38 NKJV
